In summer, there are often flocks of several tens of goldfinches here, but this winter I’ve seen only the odd one or two. They are “partial migrants”, many of them heading south (to France and Spain, I think) for the winter – today the silver birch, and the hedges, were full of them. I guess they think it’s Spring.
