Green cross codeA garden snail crossing the path on a damp night. Not the most welcome of wildlife, but snails are food for thrushes, blackbirds and probably hedgehogs, so with any luck they’ll be eaten before they cause too much damage.

Small magpie mothWhen I came home I found this pretty specimen on the ceiling – I took its photo before letting it out near some nettles, where I hope it will lay eggs (and produce caterpillars to eat the nettles)
