Buttercup

A few minutes spent looking for wildlife on the small scale: a garden mason bee struggling under a huge weight of pollen, a few flies and wild flowers, and an unidentified beetle.

WordPress (or is it Firefox?) seems to have a problem with multiple links in one entry, so don’t worry if you click on the beetle and find yourself looking at a greenbottle!

Herring gullAbout as far from the sea as you can get in the UK – but “home” for this scavenger is probably the nearest landfill site.

Sometimes I sits and thinks...Not much to photograph today – kites, rooks, collared doves as usual, some black-headed gulls (too far away). And woodpigeons, which I find quite attractive (since I’m neither a farmer nor a market gardener).

Red kite

Red kiteAnother shot of the bird I captured before – I couldn’t resist adding it here. It swooped low enough over the garden to give the cat a fright.

First flight

First flightSky and trees full of starlings – many of them seem to be fledglings, perhaps taking to the air for the first time. Good news, since starling numbers have declined in recent years.
